Leon Uris
Leon Marcus Uris (3. kolovoza 1924. – 21. lipnja 2003.) bio je američki književnik i scenarist, poznat po povijesnim romanima koji tematiziraju sukobe 20. stoljeća. Rođen u Baltimoreu, Maryland, od roditelja židovskog podrijetla, Wolfa Williama i Anne Uris, služio je u američkim marincima tijekom Drugog svjetskog rata (1942.–1945.). Njegova književna karijera započela je romanom Battle Cry (1953.), temeljenim na ratnim iskustvima, koji je adaptiran u film 1955.
Najpoznatije djelo, Exodus (1958.), svjetski je bestseler o osnivanju Izraela, plod dvogodišnjeg istraživanja i intervjua. Roman je adaptiran u film 1960. s Paulom Newmanom. Slijedili su Mila 18 (1961.) o ustanku u varšavskom getu, Armageddon (1963.) o poslijeratnom Berlinu, Topaz (1967.), špijunski roman adaptiran od Hitchcocka 1969., te Trinity (1976.), saga o irskom nacionalizmu. QB VII (1970.) bavi se suđenjem za klevetu inspiriranim stvarnim događajima iz Exodusa. Kasnija djela uključuju The Haj (1984.) o arapsko-izraelskom sukobu i Mitla Pass (1988.), djelomično autobiografski roman. S trećom suprugom, fotografkinjom Jill Peabody, surađivao je na knjizi Ireland: A Terrible Beauty (1975.).
Urisovi romani, prevedeni na brojne jezike, bili su komercijalno uspješni, ali kritičari su ih često opisivali kao više oslonjene na povijesne činjenice nego na književnu suptilnost.
