Tajanstveno ostrvo I-II

Tajanstveno ostrvo I-II

Jules Verne

The novel follows five fugitives from the American Civil War - engineer Clyde Smith, journalist Gedeon Spilett, sailor Pencroft, young Herbert and black man Nabu - who escape the siege of Richmond in a balloon, but a storm takes them to an unknown Pacific

Their stay on the island shows their resourcefulness and scientific approach to survival. They build shelter, tools and even electricity, using natural resources and knowledge.

The island, although seemingly deserted, hides many secrets - including an unknown force that helps them in dangerous moments. They later discover that this force is the legendary Captain Nemo from Verne's novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, who is hiding in his submarine Nautilus in a hidden cave. Before dying, Nemo imparts wisdom and helps them survive.

In the end, a volcanic eruption destroys the island, but the group is saved by a ship. The novel celebrates human ingenuity, science and cooperation.
