Albert

Albert

Ivica Prtenjača

In the new novel, after two somewhat autobiographical books of prose, Ivica Prtenjača returns to imagination, dreams and the need for a fairy tale.

Albert organizes his life, changes the civil order into a dreamy utopia, juggles existence, meaning, hope and clear decisions. And the doctor of science is already on the threshold of forty, at an age sensitive to any change, in a time that most clearly promises only indifference. However, Prtenjačin's hero is far from anything like that, after a tragic event in which he almost lost his life, a painful and long recovery, he adjusts his relationships with people close to him, acquires new ones, and leaves the old ones as if in a frozen frame. And of course, all that time he dreams of a better, fairer and clearer world.

"Albert" is a literary powerful book, poetic, dramatic and deeply happy. In it, Prtenjača confronts us again and again with our gaps and superficialities, but also offers cheerful solutions. They are not where they keep telling us they are. The main character of this novel is a quiet rebel, similar to the walker from "The Hill", Andrej from "The Swimmer" or the co-painter from "Silent Demolition". In this series of unforgettable characters, Albert is the closest to the dream of happiness, that powerful moment in the morning, while the eyelids are still down, and the sun has already spilled over everyone and everything.
