At its heart is Patrick Wilding before he became a legend of Darkwood. His past is linked to the shamans Ayane, Shyer and Jayla, whose roles gradually emerge as parts of a larger story. Memory becomes the key to understanding encounters that helped shape his identity and path through life.
Moreno Burattini connects elements of Zagor: Le Origini, particularly La grotta sacra, with Il ponte dell’arcobaleno and other adventures. Missing memories and connections with the past give this episode a different focus from the usual pursuit of an enemy: Zagor must rediscover part of his own life.
Anna Lazzarini’s colour artwork accompanies a story centred on figures important to the hero’s formative years. Familiarity with earlier episodes adds context, but essential events are recalled in flashbacks, allowing readers to follow the story without revisiting those issues.
