Muzeji svijeta - Egipatski muzej Kairo
The Egyptian Museum in Cairo contains the most extensive collection of ancient Egyptian art in the world. It houses more than 136,000 exhibits, while hundreds of thousands of others are kept in underground warehouses.
This museum evolved from the Egyptian Antiquities Service, which was established by the Egyptian government in 1835 to stop the looting of antiquities from numerous sites and preserve artifacts. The crown of the collection is often the tomb artifacts of the pharaoh Tutankhamun, whose intact tomb Howard Carter found in the Valley of the Kings in 1922. The museum also houses the Room of Royal Mummies with 27 mummies from the Pharaonic era.
