Schneiderov fotografijski arhiv: hrvatski spomenici kulture i umjetnosti

Borivoj Popovčak

In the protection of cultural heritage, visual documentation (photographs) is undoubtedly of exceptional importance.

As early as 1927, the Academy of Sciences and Arts reached a conclusion on the necessity of listing, scientific examination and photographic recording of works of art in the Croatian coast and Dalmatia. Artur Schneider, then director of Strossmayer's gallery, with his colleagues did a huge job from 1930 to 1940, listing and recording monuments. He left a valuable photographic archive of 2,648 negatives, some of which are reproduced in this book, and a catalog with a list of all the slides was also printed.
