The novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain is his most famous work and a favorite children's book in which the author described his childhood experiences. It follows the adventures of the mischievous boy Thomas Sawyer and his relationship with his family, friends and other residents of a place called St. Petersburg, which strongly resembles Twain's hometown. This resourceful boy gets into various problems, but every time he successfully gets out of them. His curiosity and mischief often caused problems for Aunt Polly, who was taking care of him.
Twain believed that children's literature must also be entertaining. The humor used by the writer is related to his real childhood spent on the banks of the Mississippi River.
Mark Twain lovingly dedicated this novel to his wife. He decided to write down the adventures experienced by his school friends, and often by himself. Twain will say that Tom Sawyer is a combination of two boys he knew, and he intended the book mainly for the entertainment of boys and girls. However, he hoped that even the elderly would not give up this work, because it can serve as a reminder of what they once were, felt, thought and said. The book The Adventures of Tom Sawyer was a great success, and is still a popular children's book to this day.
