Geometrija za drugi razred srednjih škola
A geometry textbook intended for the second grade of secondary schools in the Independent State of Croatia. The work of the prominent Croatian mathematician, professor and textbook author Juraj Božičević, richly illustrated with drawings and pictures.
Geometry for the second grade of secondary schools is a textbook prepared by Juraj Božičević (1882–1968), a prominent Croatian mathematician, professor of descriptive geometry and long-time author of school textbooks. It was published in 1944 in Zagreb by the Publishing Department of the Croatian State Printing House, during the period of the Independent State of Croatia.
The book is intended for the second grade of secondary schools (gymnasium, realka and similar schools). It contains material on planimetry and the basics of stereometry adapted to the curriculum of the time: basic geometric concepts, triangles, polygons, circle and sphere, similarity, surfaces, and an introduction to spatial geometry. Special attention is paid to constructions, proofs and practical applications of geometry.
Juraj Božičević was one of the most prolific authors of mathematics textbooks in Croatia in the first half of the 20th century. He worked as a professor in Split and Zagreb, and later at the Faculty of Engineering. He wrote geometry textbooks for several grades (I., II., III. and IV.), as well as works on descriptive geometry and linear perspective. His books were distinguished by their clarity, precision and rich illustration — this textbook contains a large number of drawings, sketches and pictures that helped students understand geometric theorems and constructions.
