Zbogom velika tajno

Goodbye, Great Secret (Zbogom velika tajno) is one of the most renowned and moving prose works by the distinguished children's author and poet Mira Alečković, originally published as part of immensely popular book series for children and young adults (such as the famous Vjeverica collection). This novel is an emotional and subtle chronicle of growing up, portraying the sensitive period of youth with great warmth and understanding. The plot follows a group of friends on the threshold of adolescence, at a moment when carefree childhood games, secret hideouts, and shared "great secrets" begin to transform under the influence of emerging emotions, mutual crushes, and the realities of the adult world. The novel’s central theme is this inevitable and bittersweet parting with childhood; the secret that once bound the group together loses its magic, giving way to a more mature understanding of life, responsibility, and interpersonal relationships. With her signature lyrical style, warmth, and deep psychological insight, the author depicts school days, inner turmoil, the pangs of first love, and the strength of sincere friendship. Goodbye, Great Secret remains a timeless story that gently teaches young readers to embrace change and cherish the memories we carry from childhood.
