"Selected Literary and Political Writings II. – Travelogue and Epistles" bring together two important segments of the work of Josip Juraj Strossmayer, one of the key figures of Croatian culture and politics in the 19th century. In Travelogue, Strossmayer describes his travels to European church and diplomatic gatherings, bringing a vivid picture of the cities, people and intellectual climate of his time. In doing so, he demonstrates a broad humanistic approach: an interest in art, history, education and intercultural understanding. The texts also reveal the political wisdom of a man who promoted dialogue within the divided European space and advocated the idea of the cultural and educational emancipation of Slavic peoples.

Epistles, addressed to individuals and institutions, represent the more intimate, but also the clearest programmatic part of the book. In them, Strossmayer considers the development of Croatian cultural institutions, the issue of unity, the position of the Church, and the moral and social obligations of educated people. His style is at once solemn and direct, imbued with pastoral care, political insight, and a deep conviction that culture is the foundation of national and spiritual progress.

This volume, prepared with scholarly apparatus and editorial notes, provides a comprehensive insight into Strossmayer's thought as a blend of statesmanship, cultural idealism, and spiritual responsibility.
