Povijest #7: Razvijeni srednji vijek

Sedmi tom izdanja Svetska istorija obuhvata, pored političke istorije Istočne Evrope i Mongolskog carstva, kao i pregled krstaških ratova, društvene, kulturne i verske aspekte srednjeg veka.

Period karakteriše jačanje feudalnog sistema, u kome su zemljoposednici, vazali i kmetovi oblikovali društvenu hijerarhiju. Crkva, predvođena papstvom, igra ključnu ulogu, a sukobi poput Kontroverze za investituru (11.–12. vek) odražavaju borbu za prevlast između svetovne i crkvene vlasti. Krstaški ratovi (1095–1291) podstiču verski entuzijazam, ali i trgovinu i kulturnu razmenu sa Bliskim istokom.

Gradovi cvetaju, posebno u Italiji i Flandriji, razvojem zanata, esnafa i trgovine. Univerziteti u Bolonji, Parizu i Oksfordu postaju centri učenja, promovišući sholastiku i intelektualni razvoj. Umetnost cveta kroz romanski i gotski stil, vidljiv u katedralama poput Notr Dama. Politički, monarhije, poput Engleske i Francuske, jačaju, dok Stogodišnji rat (1337–1453) označava kraj perioda.

U hrvatskom kontekstu, naglašeno je ujedinjenje sa Ugarskom (1102) i borbe sa Mlečanima. Knjiga je bogato ilustrovana, pružajući sveobuhvatan pregled tog perioda.
