unbekannter Autor

The French Messalina (1789), an erotic novel by an anonymous author, a satirical pamphlet against courtly decadence before the Revolution. The themes are libertinism, criticism of the aristocracy, and the sexual power of women. With an introduction by Jea

The stories are told by a young narrator in Versailles, an ambitious plebeian who uses love affairs to rise. He begins a relationship with the Princesse d'Hérouville: he finds her in a seductive pose, they have passionate encounters in secret rooms and gardens. He meets an "unknown" rich lady and her companion (the Duchesse de Polastron), who manipulates the encounters. Explicit scenes include situations such as kisses on the terrace, nightly pleasures with promises of wealth (diamonds, land), lesbian acts with the chambermaid Agathe, threesomes with various positions.

The novella was published for the first time in 1961 in the magazine Novij mir and aroused anger among critics, pointing out that it is only "about the narrow, intimate experiences of the heroine".
