Pratimo priču provincijskog policajca Konstantina Vadima, koji se iznenada nađe u poziciji istražitelja ubojstava iako do tada nije radio niti na jednom takvom slučaju. Iz rodnog Muramanska prelazi na mjesto šefa u Moskvi, te se i sam nalazi začuđen razvojem situacije. Moskvom hara serijski ubojica zvan Monstrum a Vadim mu mora stati na kraj. Da mu stvar bude teža, njegova bivša žena je jedna od vođa anarhista, te je traži Čeka, dok je jedan od glavnih inspektora u toj istrazi njegov najbolji prijatelj iz djetinjstva.
