Ljubavnik Lady Chatterley

Ljubavnik Lady Chatterley

David Herbert Lawrence

A novel by D.H. Lawrence, published at the author's expense in 1928 in Florence. One of the most controversial novels of the 20th century. It shocked readers at the time with explicit sexual descriptions and language, and was not published in Great Britai

The novel is today considered a vivid and direct depiction of a relationship based on passion and a masterpiece of world literature of the 20th century. The novel describes the love of the squire Oliver Mellors and Baroness Constance Chatterley. The time of events is after the First World War. Constance's husband Clifford is crippled, paralyzed and impotent. He is a veteran of the First World War. Constance is deeply unhappy and unfulfilled in her marriage. Through her relationship with Mellors, she comes back to life, gets to know her own sexuality and finds a way to personal freedom. Lawrence also describes the life in the province, as well as the special characters who live in it, the most interesting of which is Ivy Bolton, the maid who takes care of Clifford. Among the characters is Hilda, Constance's sister, her father and many others. The novel ends with the two main characters waiting for a divorce from their current spouses, waiting for a child together, but they are separated from each other. It is a work of great artistic strength, with notes of humor and irony, deep insights about life and human destiny, but also explicit descriptions of sexual relations.
