Knights In White Armour: The New Art Of War And Peace

Knights In White Armour: The New Art Of War And Peace

Christopher Bellamy

The title of this text refers to the white armoured vehicles of UN forces around the world, and also to the UN's role as peacemakers, rescuers and guardians of law and order.

The book explores the concepts of war and peace, which embrace diplomacy as well as humanitarian and environmental considerations. It also looks at how, having travelled all the way to total war, the developed world has sprung back to forms of tightly controlled limited war, and only when sanctioned, if not actually controlled, by an international authority - the UN. The book draws on recent examples of conflict, from Gulf to Bosnia, Rwanda and Grozny, where the author has had, as a reporter, first hand experience.
