Privatne istrage

Privatne istrage

Velimir Srića

An idyll with a ravishing blonde and a showdown with the drug mafia are key events in this novel whose protagonist is a Croat in America. His name is Vladimir, and he has chosen the streets of Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas for his private missi

Like a modern-day Robin Hood, Vladimir, with the help of his friend Frank, brings justice to his own hands in close encounters with a notorious drug lord and his henchmen. There are also exciting scenes of gambling in the casino, dangerous car chases under a rain of bullets, and even the obligatory dead man in the pool - just like in some tense action movie. All this is, of course, spiced up with imaginative love scenes. Nevertheless, the author occasionally stops in the narration, resorting to retardation procedures, and the novel is framed by multiple beginnings and alternative endings. It is therefore about postmodern self-referential prose, that is, a conscious, even ironic, playing with genre formulas.
