Dunje 1983: Izabrane pjesme
The collection of Jergović's poems Dunja 1983 represents the first comprehensive overview of the poetic opus of Miljenko Jergović, born in 1966 in Sarajevo, one of the most influential contemporary writers from the region.
It integrally contains five collections: Warsaw Observatory (1988, awarded by Goran and Mako Dizdar), Does anyone in this city learn Japanese tonight (1990), Himmel Comando (1992), Over the frozen bridge (1996) and Hauzmajstor Šulc (2001, awarded Premio Napoli). Unpublished poems and those from periodicals ("Naši dani", "Valter"), which were otherwise scattered and unavailable, were added.
The reason for the collection, as the publisher Durieux points out, is to provide an insight into the impressive poetic work that runs parallel to Jergović's prose work (Sarajevo Marlboro, Mama Leone). In literary periodicals, the book was praised as a key document about the author's early work: New Wave style with erotic, war and love motifs, Sarajevo dialect, repetitions and a premonition of war ("Sarajevo will burn"). Poems about father and city are poignant, full of obsessive images and the underground spirit of the 80s.
Critics emphasize the depth of Jergović's poetry: from gentle sadness to prophecy, comparing it to Šantić and Ršumović. The book has become indispensable for exploring Jergović's poetic "crooked" heritage, a parallel world to his prose fame. The 2005 edition is rare, sought after among collectors.
