1,216 "Selected Works" is a representative selection of works by Marijan Matijašević and Vlado Vlaisavljević, two authors whose poetics complement each other in presenting Croatian literature of the first half of the 20th century. Matijašević, a poet from the group Lirika šestorice and one of the authors tragically lost in the post-war purges, is represented by his intimate, sensitive lyricism, as well as prose and dramatic works. His lyricism often combines pastoral motifs with a mild utopian vision of the world, while in his novels and plays ("U brodolomu", "Aljmaš") the social and moral turmoil of the time is more strongly emphasized. Vlaisavljević's prose and drama contribute to the collection with a different expression, with an emphasis on socio-ethical issues, analyticality and a stronger narrative structure. Both authors are presented with editorial studies, chronologies, bibliographies, interpreters of names and expressions, and pictorial contributions, which gives the publication a scientific framework and allows for a comprehensive insight into their work. Together they create a picture of a double authorial voice: Matijašević's emotional lyrics and socially sensitive prose and Vlaisavljević's more rational and thematically focused dramaturgy, connecting the intimate, social and historical in a unique representative book.
