A theological-pastoral motto and an encouragement to baptismal communion. The phrase expresses the co-responsibility of all believers in carrying the Gospel, following Jesus, and building a living Church through service, faith, and love.
"In communione Christi missionis" is an enduring theological and pastoral principle that summarizes the nature of the Church and its fundamental task in the contemporary world. Originally highlighted as the motto of the historic visit of St. Pope John Paul II to the Diocese of Đakovo-Srijem in 2003, this thought became the official episcopal motto of Msgr. Ivan Ćurić, drawing on the rich tradition of conciliar ecclesiology and communion (koinonia). The thought begins with the realization that the Christian mission is not just an individual act or task of the church hierarchy, but a common calling of all the baptized. Through the grace of baptism, each believer is grafted into the body of Christ and becomes a participant in his prophetic, priestly and royal ministry. The work emphasizes the importance of the harmony of the inner spiritual life and external action in the world: from witnessing to faith in the family and society, through building solidarity and forgiveness, to active participation in liturgical and sacramental life. Written in a highly stimulating, spiritual and pastoral language, this theological thought directs believers to overcome division, selfishness and individualism. "In the communion of Christ's mission" remains a powerful call to a synodal journey, a renewal of faith and openness towards every person in the spirit of evangelical love and hope.
