Back In '72

Bob Seger

American rock musician Bob Seger's album "Back In '72" was released in 1973 on Reprise Records. It features a raw, bluesy rock sound and an original version of the anthology song "Rosalie".

The sixth studio album by American rock singer-songwriter Bob Seger, Back In '72, was released in January 1973 on Reprise Records. Although it did not achieve widespread commercial success at the time of its release, the album is now considered one of Seger's most important, most respected, and most authentic works of his early career, representing a turning point in his signature stadium rock sound.

The album is characterized by an extremely raw, organic, and bluesy atmosphere, which intertwines powerful guitar riffs, piano, and Seger's gruff, passionate vocals. The recording featured top-notch musicians, and the album features nine songs that explore themes of road life, introspection, and American roots music. The album features the original version of the legendary song "Rosalie" (later made famous by Thin Lizzy), as well as an extraordinary cover of "Turn the Page" (which would see its famous concert version on later releases), and original tracks such as "Midnight Rider", "So I Wrote You a Song" and "New York Times".

Back In '72 represents a key phase in Bob Seger's maturation as a writer and performer. Due to its artistic honesty, powerful arrangements and unfair commercial neglect, the album enjoys cult status among his fans and serious connoisseurs of classic 1970s rock music.
