Vladimir Džanko

Vladimir Džanko

Stanko Špoljarić

The monograph presents the work of Vladimir Džanko, an academic painter from Osijek, who is known above all for his landscapes and vedutes in the watercolor technique.

Vladimir Džanko was born in Glamoč, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in 1932. He graduated from the School of Applied Arts in Sarajevo, and then continued his painting studies at the Academy of Applied Arts in Belgrade in the class of Prof. Vinko Grdana, and graduated in 1962. After completing his studies, he came to Osijek, where he worked as a scenographer at the Croatian National Theatre. With a continuous painting activity lasting more than half a century, by exhibiting at numerous exhibitions in the country and abroad, he is an active participant in the Osijek, Slavonian and Croatian art scene. In addition to the artistic field, where he has shown himself to be a prolific oeuvre in oil techniques, combined techniques, watercolors, pastels and drawings, he spent most of his working life in the pedagogical field as a teacher in primary and secondary schools and the Faculty of Education in Osijek, and since 1991 until 1997 as director of the Gallery of Fine Arts, Osijek. He exhibited independently and collectively in the country and abroad (Slovenia, Hungary, Germany, Sweden, Canada). He also created numerous book illustrations. He is the recipient of the following awards: the City of Osijek Award in 1971 for his pedagogical work, and the Republic of Croatia's Order of the Danica Hrvatska with the image of Marko Marulić in 1997.
