Education and training: He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, and then trained in Paris and Vienna. He was influenced by Art Nouveau, Post-Impressionism and New Reality.

Artistic expression: His style oscillates between realism and lyrical expression, with an emphasis on emotional atmosphere. In his later period, he uses darker tones and simplified forms.

Although he was not always at the forefront of Croatian art history, today Ivo Režek is increasingly valued for his consistent and authentic artistic style, as well as for his ability to translate broader social and intimate feelings into visual form.
