The work Terror of Freedom by Radomir Milašinović, published in 1983, is a multi-layered political science and sociological-philosophical study that deals with one of the key issues of contemporary society – the nature and limits of human freedom. With a title that carries a deliberate oxymoron, the author draws attention to the paradox in which the idea of ​​freedom, when deprived of an ethical framework or when transformed into a dogma, can become a mechanism of pressure and alienation of the individual. In the book, Milašinović analyzes in detail the socio-political processes of the 20th century, critically reflecting on the diverse ideological concepts, institutional structures and mass culture that shape modern man. Through a theoretical framework and analysis of the social movements of the time, the author discusses how formal freedom of choice often conceals subtle forms of control, manipulation and loss of personal authenticity. This work is considered one of the significant contributions to Yugoslav critical thought of the first half of the 1980s.
