Divlje godine
A witty and touching novel about growing up and high school graduates dealing with first loves, school worries, family problems and the challenges of a generation on the threshold of maturity.
Divlje godine (Wild Years) is a young adult novel by the renowned Croatian writer and journalist Branka Primorac, published in 2010. The plot follows a group of high school students—focusing on girls in their final year—as they navigate the turbulent period of adolescence, the so-called "wild years." Through a humorous yet compassionate approach, the author authentically portrays contemporary youth and the challenges they face daily. The protagonists balance the pressure of final exams and career choices with complex family dynamics. Their lives are also shaped by first loves, friendships, and misunderstandings, as well as their first serious disappointments. The author does not shy away from sensitive topics such as peer pressure, the search for identity, and the generational gap between parents and children. With an engaging style and authentic dialogue, Branka Primorac crafts a story in which any teenager can easily see themselves, while offering older readers a nostalgic glimpse into the unforgettable days of growing up and entering the adult world.
