Osnivanje vojne granice u Slavoniji 1702. godine

Ive Mažuran

A historical study on the establishment of the Military Frontier in Slavonia in 1702, the Habsburg military and administrative organization, and changes in the status of the population following liberation from Ottoman rule.

The Establishment of the Military Frontier in Slavonia in 1702 by historian Ivo Mažuran is a scholarly study dedicated to the implementation of the Habsburg military-administrative system in Slavonia during the early 18th century. The work examines the political, military, economic, and social circumstances surrounding the creation of the Slavonian Military Frontier following the Ottoman withdrawal and the consolidation of Habsburg rule in the region between the Sava, Drava, and Danube rivers.

The author analyzes decisions made by the Viennese court, the operations of military commands, and the process of delineating civil and military administration. Particular attention is paid to the organization of frontier settlements, land distribution, the military obligations of the population, and the relationships between frontiersmen, landed estates, and state institutions.

The establishment of the Military Frontier in 1702 is presented as a pivotal moment in Slavonia's history, influencing its territorial organization, demographic conditions, social relations, and economic development. In doing so, Mažuran situates local events within the broader context of Habsburg policy regarding the Monarchy's southeastern borders.

This study makes a valuable contribution to the understanding of early modern Croatian history and the origins of the Slavonian frontier system. It is intended for historians, researchers of the Military Frontier, students, and readers interested in the history of Slavonia and the Habsburg Monarchy.
