Zbirka se sastoji od nekoliko kratkih priča, od kojih svaka donosi „iznenađenje“ — događaj koji likovi nisu očekivali, ali koji često menja njihov pogled na život, odnose ili same sebe. Milak piše jednostavno i pristupačno, često sa dozom humora, ironije ili blage kritike društvenih pojava.

Likovi su uglavnom deca ili mladi ljudi koji se suočavaju sa dilemama vezanim za porodicu, prijateljstvo, školu, iskrenost, empatiju i identitet. Neke priče imaju i blago fantastične elemente, ali većina je zasnovana na stvarnim situacijama i svakodnevnim problemima.

Autor često koristi iznenađujući kraj koji tera čitaoca na razmišljanje i ostavlja utisak.
