Michael Walsch

Michael Walsh's As Time Goes By continues and expands the story of the film Casablanca, following the fates of Rick, Ilsa and other characters during World War II through love, war and dangerous missions.

As Time Goes By is a novel by American writer Michael Walsh based on the legendary film Casablanca. The work expands the story of famous characters and gives the reader the opportunity to find out what happened after the end of one of the most famous films in the history of cinema. The novel combines elements of a love story, war adventure, spy thriller and historical fiction.

At the center of the plot is Rick Blaine, the owner of a famous café in Casablanca, who, after the departure of Ilse Lund and Victor Laszlo, continues to participate in events related to World War II. The author follows Rick's activities in the fight against Nazism, his dangerous missions and meetings with various political and military actors of the war period. At the same time, the story of Ilsa and her relationship with Victor Laszlo, one of the leaders of the European resistance movement, develops.

The novel's special value is represented by numerous returns to the past, with which Walsh presents Rick's life before Casablanca in more detail. The reader learns about his youth, love affairs, political beliefs, and the events that shaped his character. This further explains his complex personality and the reasons why he became a cynical, but at the same time noble hero.

The novel explores themes of love, loyalty, sacrifice, and personal responsibility in a time of great historical turmoil. Through the fates of famous characters, the author shows how war affects individuals and how private feelings often clash with moral obligations and political circumstances. The atmosphere of danger, secret missions, and uncertainty is present throughout the work.

Thanks to its dynamic plot, nostalgic atmosphere, and successful connection with the film template, As Time Goes By is an interesting read for fans of the film Casablanca and readers who enjoy historical and adventure novels.
