Moj zagrebački rukopis

Moj zagrebački rukopis

Zvonimir Milčec

Milčec is still just as in love with the city. He conquers it just as youthfully. The siege of Zagreb has made no one smaller. The city grows and the conqueror continues to conquer the unconquerable.

Thus, Milčec, speaking of Zagreb through the inspired weaving of a plot about love, has woven a hitherto unknown novelistic whole, full of life facts, concrete life events, signs of the times and people, alive or who remain alive in the collective memory or only in the author's memory. His confessional prose is a superb blend of journalistic and literary nerve. Milčec is equally intimate, casual and close whether he is talking about big or small topics. In fact, every topic is big for him. The magic of this book lies in this two-time perspective through which the author observes, experiences and lives himself and Zagreb. We follow the growth of the mischievous young Milčec and his gradual transformation into a man of the 21st century (so now, alluding to his use of the Internet and e-mail, we call him Imejlčec). This half century that we hold in our hands excludes any one-dimensionality: along with the city and the author, the reader now also experiences the transmutation of time flows in the vast, inexhaustible enigma of magnetic and magical Zagreb. Of which, the still incurably in love Zvonimir Milčec would say, only the women of Zagreb are more beautiful!
