In this humorous and satirical story, Boccaccio depicts life in a monastery and ridicules the hypocrisy and weaknesses of people who should live morally and piously.
The story takes place in a monastery where monks and nuns often do not live according to the rules they publicly advocate. Instead of a strict and holy life, secret love affairs, deceptions and comic misunderstandings occur among them. The characters try to hide their actions, but their intrigues often end in ridiculous situations. Through this story, Boccaccio criticizes the hypocrisy of church people and shows that all people are subject to passions and weaknesses regardless of social status. The work is full of humor, irony and lively dialogues.
