Kekec is a cheerful shepherd, skilled and fearless, who faces numerous dangers in his adventures.
In addition to some of Kekeč's incredible and fairy-tale adventures and heroism, Vandot tried to describe the real life of a shepherd. Thus, Kekec becomes a true symbol of resourcefulness, boldness and honesty. In the stories about Kekec, Vandot's beautiful birthplace is clearly recognizable - Kranjska Gora, the Tamar valley and the Pišnica river with its harsh canyon.
