Franz Kafka

Franc Kafka (1883–1924) je bio praški pisac jevrejskog porekla, koji je pisao na nemačkom i smatra se jednim od najuticajnijih pisaca 20. veka. Rođen je u Pragu, tada u sastavu Austrougarske monarhije. Studirao je pravo i radio za osiguravajuću kompaniju, ali je pisanje bilo njegova prava strast, iako je tokom života objavio samo mali deo svog rada.

Kafkina dela su obeležena temama otuđenja, birokratije, anksioznosti i bespomoćnosti pojedinca u svetu bez jasnog smisla i pravde. Njegova najpoznatija dela su Metamorfoza, novela o čoveku koji se budi pretvoren u insekta, i romani Suđenje i Zamak, koji prikazuju pojedinca suočenog sa apsurdnim, neprobojnim sistemima moći.

Njegov stil karakteriše preciznost izraza, anksiozna atmosfera i simbolika, što je kasnije dovelo do izraza „kafkijanski“, koji označava situacije bez izlaza ili racionalnog objašnjenja. Kafka je bio krajnje samokritičan i ostavio je u testamentu zahtev da se njegovi neobjavljeni rukopisi unište, čemu se njegov prijatelj Maks Brod nije povinovao – zahvaljujući čemu je Kafka posle smrti postao svetski poznat.

Umro je od tuberkuloze 1924. godine u 41. godini.
