The work provides a systematic overview of French painting throughout the 19th century – from the neoclassicism of Jacques-Louis David, through romanticism (Géricault, Delacroix), realism (Courbet), Barbizon School, impressionism (Monet, Renoir, Degas), to post-impressionism (Cézanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin) and the early 20th century with Henri Matisse and fauvism.
Babić's approach is synthetic and very artistically sensitive. As an active painter, he pays special attention to technical and artistic issues – color, light, composition, brushstroke and the way of shaping space.
