Antički grad na istočnom Jadranu

Mate Suić

Mate Suić's book "Ancient City on the Eastern Adriatic" represents a great enrichment of Croatian scientific literature in which archaeological, urban and architectural problems of the ancient period are studied.

In this work, the author first of all integrated all previous scientific discoveries and knowledge in the field of study of the mentioned topic, providing the presented data with rich documentation. Furthermore, in this action, he presented the abundance of results of his extensive scientific and research work, thereby broadening the insight into the richness and quality of the ancient legacy on the soil of our Adriatic coast.

On the basis of rich material, this book provides an exhaustive analysis of the development process of the creation of settlements and cities in the range from the prehistoric period to the end of the ancient era. At the same time, the special value of this scientific work is the extensive comparative material on the basis of which the systematization and basic typological classification of ancient settlements and cities on our coastal area was carried out. Furthermore, this work is of special importance due to the extensive presentation and detailed treatment of the architectural activity of the ancient period, in which a large number of important and valuable ancient architectural buildings built on our soil are analyzed. In addition to numerous technical documentation on the current state of individual finds, many reconstructions of the original forms of individual buildings are presented, based on a detailed archaeological study of the objects and a rich register of comparative material.

Due to its scientific value and the scope of the material covered, this book was included among the foundation of the works within its scientific domain.
