Seobe

Seobe

Miloš Crnjanski

Seobe (1929) is at the same time a family novel of three characters and a national novel about the Serbs in the Habsburg Monarchy at the time of Maria Theresa. Abridged edition edited by Slavko Leovac.

By poetically telling the story of the fate of the Serbian officer Vuk Isaković, his wife and his regiment during the military campaign in 1744, it branches into history about the general tragedy of not belonging, about wandering, the search for meaning and dreams of refuge.

Immediately after its publication, the novel received the SANU award. Parts 2 and 3 were subsequently published.
