Umorstva u ulici Morg

Umorstva u ulici Morg

Edgar Allan Poe

"The Murders in the Rue Morgue" is a short horror story by Edgar Allan Poe written in 1841. The work mentions the brilliant Auguste Dupin and is considered one of the first crime stories.

The story is set in Paris, and the narrator, an anonymous American, describes his friendship with C. Auguste Dupin, an eccentric and brilliant analyst. After reading the news of a brutal double murder in the Rue Morgue – Madame L’Espanaye and her daughter, found dead in a locked room under bizarre circumstances – Dupin decides to solve the case. The victims were killed with extreme brutality: one was nearly decapitated, the other was suffocated and pushed down a chimney. The police are baffled, as there is no obvious motive, and witnesses mention a strange, unintelligible voice.
