When published, The Shadow Writer, The Liberated, and The Anatomy Lesson seemed like standalone works, albeit connected by Zuckerman's adventures over three decades. But when read together with The Prague Orgy, it becomes clear that Philip Roth, with his characteristic rarity and biting sharpness, has written a unique work, very distinctive and with a great deal of humor.
