Kanjoni noći

Jayne Castle

Canyons of Night (2011) by Jayne Castle (pseudonym Jayne Ann Krentz) is the third and final novel in the "Mirror" trilogy. Typical of Castle/Krentz: a strong heroine, a protective hero, psi-energy, mystery, and light eroticism.

Set in a futuristic world after the opening of the Curtain, which allows interstellar travel, the story takes place on Rainshadow Island, where there is a mysterious, private forest called the Preserve – full of dangerous paranormal forces and “canyons of night”.

Main characters: Charlotte Enright, an antique shop owner with a paranormal talent for “recording” objects (feeling their history), and Slade Attridge, Charlotte’s former teenage crush, now the island’s police chief, with his own psi-talents and a companion – a dust rabbit named Newton. After 15 years of absence, both return to Rainshadow: Charlotte takes over her late aunt’s shop, Slade a new job.

It is revealed that the Preserve holds ancient secrets and danger – someone is trying to use the canyon’s energy for evil. The couple confronts the past, attraction and danger: murders, paranormal attacks, a missing persons mystery. The novel mixes romantic suspense, paranormal thriller, mystery and humor. It culminates in the island's rescue and a romantic happy ending – Charlotte and Slade find love and a balance of their talents.
