Dejan Ognjanović

Dejan Ognjanović (born January 30, 1973 in Nis, Serbia) is a prominent Serbian writer, literary and film critic, essayist, editor and translator, specializing in the horror genre. He graduated in English language and literature at the Faculty of Philosophy in Niš, earned a master's degree with a topic on Gothic motifs in the works of Edgar Allan Poe (2009), and a doctorate at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade with the dissertation "Historical Poetics of the Horror Genre in Anglo-American Literature" (2012).

Ognjanović is the author of several novels: Naživo (2003), Zavodnik (2014), Prokletije (2021) and Zadušnice (2023), as well as the story collection Divlja kapela (2022). His works often explore themes of war, social disintegration and the supernatural, set in a Balkan context.

As an essayist and critic, he has published a number of studies, including The Faust Screen (2006), In the Hills, Horrors (2007), Study of Horror (2008), Poetics of Horror (2014; 2022), More than the Truth: Kadijević on Kadijević (2017), The Weird World of H.P. Lovecraft (2017) and Cult of Ghul (2019).

Ognjanović is the editor of the "Poetics of Horror" series at the publishing house Orfelin (Novi Sad), where he edits and translates key works of horror literature. He has been writing regularly for the international horror magazine Rue Morgue since 2010.
