Edgar Faure
Edgar Faure, French lawyer and politician (Béziers, 18 August 1908 – Paris, 30 March 1988). He was a supporter of the Radical Party. In World War II he joined General Ch. de Gaulle, and in 1945 he was a prosecutor in the Nuremberg Trials. During the Fourth Republic he was a minister several times, and in 1952 and 1955–56 he was prime minister. After de Gaulle came to power in 1958, he was initially on the sidelines, but from 1962 he carried out sensitive foreign policy tasks. He was Minister of Agriculture (1966–68) and Education (1968–69) and President of the National Assembly (1973–78). He is a member of the French Academy. He published several volumes of memoirs, and under the pseudonym Edgar Sanday also detective novels.
