Bruno Traven

Bruno Traven (ca. 1882 – 1969) was an enigmatic and mysterious writer, best known for novels with strong social themes. Although his real name is a matter of debate, he is most often associated with the German author Reto Marut. After political turmoil in Europe, Traven moved to Mexico, where his most important literary work was created.

His works are characterized by a strong critique of capitalism, colonialism and social injustice, and the characters are often ordinary people fighting for dignity and survival. He writes in a simple, clear style, without embellishment, and the messages of his novels are still relevant today.

The most famous works include "Blago Sierra Madre" (The Treasure of the Sierra Madre), which was successfully filmed in 1948, then "The Car", "The White Towel", and the cycle of novels about the Indian worker "Caoba", which describes the brutal working conditions in the Mexican plantations.

Traven kept his privacy throughout his life; He avoided interviews and public appearances, which further increased his mystique. His contribution to world literature lies in his humanism and honest portrayal of the invisible layers of society.
