Arhimandrit Jovan Rajić

Serbian writer (Srijemski Karlovci, 11. XI. 1726 – Kovilj, 11. XII. 1801). Studied at the Spiritual Academy in Kiev, was a high school teacher in Srijemski Karlovci and Novi Sad. From 1772, monk and archimandrite in the Kovilj monastery. For educational purposes, he wrote the textbook Katihizis (1776), the most translated Serbian book of the 18th century. century, and a comprehensive history of several Slavic nations History of various Slavic nations, especially Bulgarians, Croats and Serbs (I–IV, 1794–95). He is also the author of several theological works, then lyrical and epic poems, among which stand out the allegorical-historical poem Boj zmaja sa orlovi (1791), and the collection of moralistic stories Cvetnik (1802).
