Ellen Gould White
Ellen Gould White (1827–1915) was an American Christian author, theologian, and co-founder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Born in Gorham, Maine, she was raised in a Methodist family and as a young woman joined the Millerite movement, which expected the imminent return of Christ.
After the “Great Disappointment” of 1844, Ellen White claimed to have begun receiving visions from God that would later shape the doctrines and teachings of the new Adventist community. Her prophecies and writings played a key role in shaping the identity and doctrine of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
During her lifetime, she wrote more than 40 books and thousands of articles. Her most important titles include The Desire of Ages (about the life of Jesus Christ), The Great Controversy (about the struggle between good and evil throughout history), Education, Steps to Christ, and The Ministry of Healing.
Her total written output exceeds 100,000 pages, and she is considered one of the most translated women authors in history. She was a strong advocate for healthy living, education, and spiritual reform, and her influence extended beyond the Adventist community.
