Mino Milani
Mino Milani (3 February 1928 – 10 February 2022) was an Italian writer, comic book writer, journalist and historian, known for his significant contribution to Italian comic literature and children's literature. Born in Pavia, he graduated in medicine but devoted himself to writing. He worked as an editor at the Corriere della Sera publishing house and collaborated with leading Italian comic book publishers such as Sergio Bonelli Editore and Edizioni Larousse.
Milani is best known for his comic book scripts, including the Tex Willer, Zagor and Ken Parker series, where he demonstrated his ability to create complex characters and historically informed stories. His work on the comic book Discovery of the World in Comics: Odysseus and Alexander the Great (Dnevnik, Novi Sad, 1980), in collaboration with cartoonists Enrique Sio and Karlo Marčelo, stands out for its educational approach, combining mythology and history. He also wrote novels, historical essays, and books for young adults, such as La storia di Ulisse e Argo and Fantasma d’amore, often exploring themes of adventure, morality, and human nature.
He was a prolific author with dozens of titles, and his works have been translated into several languages, including Croatian and Serbian. He has won awards such as the Premio Bancarella for literature. Milani is respected for his erudition, style, and ability to adapt stories to different audiences. His antiquarian editions, especially comics from the 1970s and 1980s, are sought after by collectors for their cultural significance and limited editions.
