The novel The Materassi Sisters, published in 1934, is the most famous work of the Italian writer Aldo Palazzeschi. The story is set in the suburb of Florence, Santa Maria a Coverciano, between 1918 and 1928.
The novel is an important representative of verismo, Italian realism, and depicts the lives of people from the south of Italy, especially the conflicts between the poor peasantry and the decaying aristocracy.
Through these stories, Moravia explores themes of social inequality, the struggle for survival, and human frailty, portraying them with a mix of humor, irony, and realistic observation.
Dirljiv i bolno iskren dijalog majke sa nerođenim detetom, koji je napisala poznata italijanska novinarka i književnica Orijana Falači, decenijama oduševljava generacije čitalaca širom sveta.
