Muškarac, žena i dijete

Erich Segal

The novel, published in 1980, is the work of Erich Segal, known for Love Story. The story focuses on complex family relationships, love, and moral dilemmas, exploring how the past influences the present.

The main character, Robert Beckwith, a distinguished professor of statistics at MIT, lives a seemingly perfect life with his wife Sheila and two daughters in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Their harmonious life is disrupted when Robert learns of the death of his former lover, French doctor Nicole Guerin, with whom he had a brief affair ten years earlier while living in France. Nicole left behind a son, Jean-Luc, who Robert discovers is his. This discovery forces him to confront the consequences of his past.

Sheila, though hurt, agrees to temporarily take Jean-Luc into their home for the summer until a permanent solution can be found. Their attempt to integrate the boy into the family brings a series of emotional conflicts, especially as Robert and Sheila try to protect their daughters from the truth. Jean-Luc, sensitive and confused, tries to adapt to his new surroundings, while the family balances secrets, love, and a sense of duty.
