Velo misto

Velo misto

Miljenko Smoje

It is difficult to say whether Velo misto is a story about several dramatic decades in Split disguised as the history of Hajduk, or whether it is a story about a mythical football club disguised as a story about the past of the famous city.

In the middle is a book about small people from a small town, who will found a small club. And as time passes, all of them and all of theirs will grow. Some of the credit for that magical unfolding also goes to the soul, that is, to the glory of their chronicler. Miljenko Smoje did not create either Split or Hajduk, he "only" described them like no one before him, and thus created a mass image of the city and the club, which became deeply rooted, so one has to wonder what would have remained of the city and the club to this day if he had not either their irresistible chronicler.
