Amin Maalouf

This imaginary autobiography presents the memoirs of a real historical figure, Leo the African, traveler, diplomat and writer of the 16th century.

Through vivid descriptions, the author takes us through the significant events that Leo the African witnessed during his turbulent life, including the Reconquest of Granada, the Ottoman occupation of Egypt and the Renaissance in Rome. Maalouf skilfully reconstructs the life of Leon and offers insight into the upheavals of that time.
