The story follows Travis Chase, a former police officer and member of the super-secret agency Tangent, who investigates an anomaly called the Rift - a top-secret state secret. The plot begins with a dramatic attack: a warhead destroys the White House during the President's address to the nation, leaving behind rubble and only two coded words as a clue. Travis and his Tangent colleagues become the targets of a powerful "shadow government" as they try to uncover the truth behind the attack.

The investigation uncovers an even darker secret connected to the Rift, one that threatens to have catastrophic consequences. Faced with his own mysterious destiny, Travis races against time and enemies to prevent the fulfillment of a sinister plan. The plot is full of action, technological intrigue and unexpected twists, as Travis uncovers the complex connections between the Rift, political power and global threats. Lee masterfully combines suspense, science fiction and moral dilemmas, leading the story to an explosive finale.
