Several months have passed since the events in Kiss of Shadows. Merry Gentry returned to the Gray Detective Agency, bringing with her several sidhe warriors as collaborators, but also as lovers.
But Merry doesn't have much time to enjoy them, because Hollywood star Maeve Reed, who before her exile from the Light Court was known as Conchenn, the goddess of love, turns to her for help. Maeve will ask Merry to perform a fertility rite for her so that she can become pregnant with her beloved human husband whose days are numbered.
At the same time, mysterious and ancient dark forces are spreading death across Los Angeles. Merry and her warriors have to save their bare lives, but at the same time she has to do her best to conceive a child - because only when pregnant could she claim the right to the throne of the Dark Court...
