The novel "The Gambler" (1866) occupies an exceptional place in Dostoevsky's work. Although the idea for this novel supposedly matured for a full three years, Dostoevsky dictated it almost in his breath, in just twenty-seven days.
The novel "The Gambler" is basically a story about the hell of the casino, which the writer himself has deeply experienced, about the demons of roulette that dominate man, about the blindness that results from passion and addiction to gambling.
